# Dispute a credit card billing error by Certified Mail

Your credit card statement shows a charge you did not make, the wrong amount,
or something you paid for but never received. You can dispute it with your
card issuer. The Fair Credit Billing Act protects you only if your **written**
notice reaches the issuer in time. Your AI app writes the notice with you. We
print it and mail it in your name by USPS Certified Mail with return receipt.

- **Postal service:** Certified Mail with return receipt (USPS)
- **Price:** $14.99 for 1 page. The preview shows the full price.
- **Recorded:** Handover, delivery and signature recorded
- **Delivery:** Usually 3–5 business days after the handover to the post. Our print partner hands it over usually within 3 business days.
- **Proof:** The post records the delivery and the signature. We cannot get the signed record for you yet. [What a registered letter proves](https://agentletterdesk.com/guides/what-a-registered-letter-proves)

## Why a letter, not e-mail

- **A written notice, received within 60 days.** The notice must reach the
issuer at its billing-error address no later than 60 days after it sent the
  first statement with the error
  ([12 CFR 1026.13(b)](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/rules-policy/regulations/1026/13/)).
A USPS delivery record shows when it arrived.
- **E-mail counts only if the issuer says so.** An electronic notice counts as
written only when the issuer's billing rights statement says it accepts
one, and how (official interpretation, comment 13(b)-2). The CFPB says: "To
protect your rights you must also send a written billing error notice"
  ([CFPB](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/ask-cfpb/how-do-i-dispute-a-charge-on-my-credit-card-bill-en-61/)).
- **The FTC recommends certified mail** with a return receipt, sent to the
address for billing inquiries, not the payment address
  ([FTC](https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/using-credit-cards-and-disputing-charges)).

## Example to copy

> My credit card statement of [date] shows a charge of [amount] from
> [merchant] on [date] that is wrong because [reason]. Write a billing error
> notice to my card issuer's billing-error address from the statement, with
> my name and account number. Then mail it by Certified Mail.

Your AI asks for the issuer's address, your name, the account number and
the charge. It writes the letter with you.

## Good to know

- **Use the billing-error address.** Your statement names it, often under
"billing rights". It is usually not the payment address.
- **The issuer has deadlines too.** It must acknowledge your notice within
30 days and resolve it within two billing cycles, at most 90 days.
- **While the dispute is open,** you need not pay the disputed amount, and
the issuer may not call it delinquent for that reason. Pay the rest of your
  bill as usual.
- **This is your own dispute** about a charge on your bill. We do not offer
debt relief, debt settlement or credit repair.

## FAQ

### Does the letter prove what I wrote?

No. USPS records the delivery and the signature, not the content. Keep the PDF
preview as your copy of the letter.

### Do I get the green return receipt card?

You get the tracking number and the USPS tracking link, which shows the
delivery. We cannot get the signed return receipt for you yet.

### Should I also call my card issuer?

The CFPB suggests calling right away. To protect your rights, also send the
written notice within 60 days.

### Can I send it from outside the United States?

No. USPS accepts only a US return address, so the sender must be in the
United States.
