After a wedding, you owe many people a thank you. A printed card with a few warm lines is a lovely way to say it. The ideas below are a starting point. Change them until they sound like you, or ask your AI app to adapt them.
When to send
Most etiquette guides say to send your thank-you cards within about three months after the wedding. Sooner is nicer. If a gift came before the wedding, thank the giver soon after it arrives, and do not wait for the day. A late card is still welcome. Send it, and do not write a long apology.
A simple formula
- Name the gift or the help. "Thank you for the beautiful blue vase."
- Say how you will use it. "It stands on our table, with fresh flowers."
- Add a personal line. A memory of the day, or a reason that you were glad they came.
- Sign from both of you. "With love, Anna and Tom."
If you received a gift
- "Dear Aunt Carol, thank you for the beautiful vase. It already stands on our dining table, and we think of you each time we put flowers in it. We loved dancing with you at the party. With love, Anna and Tom."
If you received money
You do not need to name the amount. Say what the gift will do for you.
- "Dear Uncle Dan and Aunt Sue, thank you so much for your generous gift. We will use it for the sofa that we need for our first apartment. Thank you for celebrating with us. Warmly, Anna and Tom."
For a guest who travelled
- "Dear Jonas, thank you for flying across the country to be with us. It meant so much to see you in the front row. Your toast made us laugh and cry. We hope to see you again soon. Love, Anna and Tom."
For a helper or a member of the wedding party
- "Dear Mia, thank you for everything you did for us: the late-night planning, the calm voice before the ceremony, and your speech. We could not have done it without you. We love you. Anna and Tom."
For a group gift
When a group of friends or colleagues gave one gift, you can write one card to the group. Or write one card for each person. A card for each person feels more personal.
- "Dear friends at the Elm Street office, thank you for the lovely gift. We use the new cookware every week, and we think of you each time. It was a joy to have you at our wedding. Warm wishes, Anna and Tom."
Many guests
A wedding can mean 80 thank-you cards. With Agent Letter Desk, you make the card once in your AI app. One order sends the same card to up to 100 people, and each card starts with the greeting name of that person, for example "Dear Aunt Carol,". The price is $6.99 a card, $5.99 from 10 cards and $5.49 from 25 cards. All cards must be in one order for the lower price. Read more in Send one card to many people.
In one order, the message is the same for everyone. Write it so that it fits the whole list, and keep the gift and any personal detail out of it: "Thank you for celebrating with us. Your kindness meant the world." For a close friend, a family member or a helper, send a separate card with its own message.
You can also put a photo from your wedding on the front. The steps are the same as in A Christmas card with your own photo.
We don't write your card
These are ideas, not a template. You or your AI app write the message, with the real names. If you need addresses, ask your guests. Before you approve, you see the preview of the exact card that we print, inside and out. The inside has room for about 550 characters, a few short paragraphs. We mail cards to recipients in the United States, from any country.
